Ray is a lifelong student of discipline, music, and movement, with deep interests in kung fu, chess, violin, flute, classical music, and Charanga traditions.

Ray De Leon was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and moved to the United States at age twenty-three seeking opportunity and purpose. His journey includes Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., radio announcing, medical laboratory work, paralegal studies, cultural learning, and service shaped by discipline and memory.

He later served as a correction officer with the New York State Department of Corrections, witnessing prison life from the inside. His background in broadcasting, public service, and cultural exploration gives his writing honesty, memory, and human meaning today.

Through his memoir, Ray reflects on the people, places, and prison encounters that shaped his life. His voice carries Dominican heritage, immigrant determination, musical passion, and the unforgettable lessons learned behind institutional walls during years of correctional service work.
